For 200 years, the Phoenix City has seen itself as the artistic capital of the west coast, manifesting first in the candyland color scheme of the “painted ladies” and the soft focus art deco of the WPA murals dotting the seven gold flecked hills, and in the 70s as one of the centers of the Chicano Mural movement which continues today.
