On the south coast of Tierra del Fuego, Ushuaia is about as far south as a tourist can comfortably go to in the Americas. The city faces the Beagle Channel where penguins, sea lions and rare sea birds are abound. Ushuaia has a wide variety of restaurants which have local seafood dishes like centolla, an Antarctic variety of king crab. Among other attractions in the city, there is the beautiful Tierra del Fuego National Park and the train “End of World,” used in the past by the prisoners of Ushuaia´s jail to collect firewood. Ushuaia is a wonderful combination of breathtaking nature and an interesting history, full of sailors' anecdotes and stories.
